Do You Brush the Roof of Your Mouth Often Enough?

Posted on 12/20/2019 by Robert Leale
Do You Brush the Roof of Your Mouth Often Enough?Everyone knows the standard procedure for brushing and flossing. You start by flossing in-between every tooth and then move on to brushing all the surfaces of your teeth, but did you know the roof of your mouth needs to be scrubbed as well?

The roof of the mouth is often forgotten during our daily brushing ritual, but it's an important step to take to make sure your mouth stays healthy and happy.

Brushing the roof of your mouth is an important step in maintaining good oral hygiene. This is because the roof of your mouth, just like every other part of your mouth, can have bacteria on it. Bacteria can grow anywhere in the mouth and forgetting to brush the roof of your mouth could cause some serious problems.

What Happens If You Ignore The Roof Of Your Mouth

Bacteria that forms in the mouth can cause tooth decay and gum disease. The bacteria that grows on the roof of your mouth is no different. By not brushing the roof of your mouth daily, you give bacteria a chance to multiply more easily, and believe it or not, cause serious bad breath.

When the bacteria in our mouth eat the leftover food in our mouth, they essentially make byproducts that can be quite smelly. Often, people who suffer from bad breath forget to brush the roof of their mouth. Luckily, a lot of cases of bad breath can be solved by simply making the effort to clean the roof of your mouth every time your brush.

Another problem that can be caused by not brushing the roof of your mouth is an infection of the saliva glands. Some saliva glands are located near the roof of the mouth and can become infected by the bacteria that resides in your mouth. However, proper brushing of these areas ensures that they won't become infected. If you have any more questions about proper brushing techniques, give us a call. We'll be happy to help you!
