![]() What Causes Tooth Decay?Tooth decay starts with bacteria inside your mouth. Whenever we eat or drink something that has lots of sugar or starch, the bacteria in our mouths use it to produce acid. The acids start to chew away at the tooth armor or enamel. When the tooth is repeatedly exposed to that acid, like soda every day, those repeated attacks of acid eat the enamel away. Our body fights this acid with minerals in our saliva.
