Can Anything Be Done to Stop Tooth Decay?

Can Anything Be Done to Stop Tooth Decay?Tooth pain is one of the most frustrating things to deal with. The pain rates right up there with a broken bone. If the pain is bearable, but steady, you are most likely dealing with tooth decay. Perhaps you see it, either a white or dark spot on your tooth. The first thing you should do is give our office a call. If caught early enough, you can prevent it from becoming much worse without a filling.

What Causes Tooth Decay?

Tooth decay starts with bacteria inside your mouth. Whenever we eat or drink something that has lots of sugar or starch, the bacteria in our mouths use it to produce acid. The acids start to chew away at the tooth armor or enamel. When the tooth is repeatedly exposed to that acid, like soda every day, those repeated attacks of acid eat the enamel away. Our body fights this acid with minerals in our saliva. When the enamel and tooth have lost all minerals a white spot develops first. It's a sign of early decay.

What Our Office Can Do to Help

The sooner we see you, the more options we have available. If we can catch the tooth decay in those beginning stages, where it may just be a simple white spot and a dull ache. We have the option of applying materials like calcium, fluoride, and phosphates to protect it and strengthen the enamel. This makes your teeth more resistant to the acids that cause decay.  When decay reaches the dentin or tooth interior, it will increase in pain and spread quickly infecting the root. An abscessed tooth can be avoided by calling us today.

Nobody likes to be the bearer of bad news. Our office is here to help. When it comes to tooth decay the longer you put off oral care the more pain you experience. As more and more tooth decays the procedures to get you on track get more expensive. Give our office a call, we can resolve your oral care affordably.
