How to Freshen Your Breath Naturally

Posted on 10/10/2018 by Robert Leale
How to Freshen Your Breath NaturallyBad breath can be caused by several different things, and it's important to come to see us regularly for cleanings so that we can examine your mouth to make sure there's nothing serious going on.

Provided that your bad breath is occasional, there are many ways that you can control it and freshen it naturally. The most important way to keep your breath fresh starts at home. Brushing and flossing daily keeps the plaque and bacteria from building up on your teeth, which is the primary cause of bad breath.

Smells Good/ Feels Good

When your breath smells good, you feel confident when you talk to the people around you. In addition to regular brushing and flossing, don't forget to clean your tongue.

Bacteria can stick to the surface of your tongue by sticking to the taste buds. This bacterium releases a waste byproduct that causes a stench. A tongue scraper is effective in removing this bacterium as well as just brushing your tongue with your toothbrush.

Chewing on fresh parsley or mint leaves is another effective way to eliminate undesired odors in your mouth. Keeping a few on hand will not only freshen your breath, but it will increase your intake of greens.

Parsley contains chlorophyll and that works against the development of sulphur compounds which cause bad breath. The mint leaves obviously leave a minty freshness in your mouth as well as gets the saliva flowing in your mouth which cleanses your mouth of unwanted bacteria.

Water has so many health benefits and helping to keep your breath fresh is just one of them. The water lubricates your mouth, keeps the bacteria from building up and helps your body function normally.

Most importantly, brush and floss daily and keep scheduling your cleanings with our office. Together we will work to keep your breath smelling fresh and clean!
