Make Sure You Floss At Least Once Each Day or You May Wind Up with Double Cavities

Make Sure You Floss At Least Once Each Day or You May Wind Up with Double CavitiesSome people may think that if one is good, then doubling it is better. This is not the case when it comes to cavities.

Double cavities are a problem that many people struggle with. They are also something that they can prevent if they take the right oral health steps. There is one habit that can prevent double cavities from happening.

What is a Double Cavity?

A cavity is a hole in the tooth. The hole is the result of bacteria eating away at the tooth. When two teeth are next to each other, it is possible for both of them to end up with a cavity. If the cavity is on both sides of the gap between two teeth, it is called a double cavity. That will require both teeth needing a filling.

How Flossing Prevents This

Most people think that all you need to do to prevent cavities is brush your teeth every day with a fluoride toothbrush. Every dental professional will tell you that is only one part of good oral health habits. They will remind you that flossing plays a vital role in keeping all your teeth healthy.

When it comes to double cavities, brushing has serious limitations. It is difficult to reach the gap between teeth where the double cavity forms. The solution to that is flossing. The floss is able to get in between the teeth and remove the bacteria and debris that hides there.

It is not enough to say flossing will prevent double cavities. It is also about the technique you have when flossing. It is important to use clean pieces of floss between each tooth. It is also important not to floss too hard to prevent any damage from happening. When you use the right technique flossing, you get the best results and can prevent double cavities.
