Would You Brush Better with a Different Flavor of Toothpaste?

Posted on 4/20/2017 by Robert Leale
A toothbrush with toothpaste on it!
When you brush your teeth, the toothpaste makes a difference, doesn't it? Do you prefer a gel or do like the traditional white stuff squirting from your toothpaste tube?

In the good old days, all you could get was tooth powder! And there was no flavor for the tooth powder.

It just tasted like you would expect white powder to taste. Now you can get traditional unflavored, peppermint, spearmint, and cinnamon. Kids can even have bubble gum flavored toothpaste. But does it matter?

Does the Flavor Make A Difference?

Brushing your teeth isn't something you look forward to all day. Brushing your teeth is a chore, a habit, a step in your personal hygiene regimen. Children try to get out of it whenever they can and many adults brush only because they have to. If they miss their regular brushing, they think nothing of it. But what if tooth brushing was made more appealing? Would people be more likely to want to brush? Would children become more enthusiastic?

Flavors and Fun in Your Toothpaste

Let's be honest here. If you don't like to brush your teeth, or at the very least simply consider it a necessary chore, are you going to brush more frequently if your toothpaste tastes lousy? If you can only get cinnamon toothpaste and you hate cinnamon flavored anything, are you going to forgo brushing your teeth until you can find some happy mint flavor? Well, you just might. And you aren't the only one.

People want things to taste good. Children especially want that. So, if you get your child bubblegum-flavored toothpaste and they rush to the bathroom to brush their teeth, I would think you would credit the taste of the toothpaste. And if you jump on the first tube of spearmint-flavored toothpaste you can find, won't you attribute that to the flavor? Good, glad that question was settled.
