Are Veneers a Good Option for Cracks in Your Teeth?

When your teeth get small cracks in them, it can be hard to protect those teeth from further damage. It can also be a problem aesthetically. If you are struggling with covering up cracks in your teeth, then it is important that you know that you do have options. You do not need to suffer from the effects that cracks, or even chips, can have on your teeth. One of the better options is veneers.

How Veneers Can Help

Veneers cover your teeth like a shell covers an oyster. Your tooth is still there, but then a protective outer shell is placed over the top. When that shell is put in place, your tooth looks better since the cracks are covered, and the tooth has a bit more protection, since the crack is not exposed to how you use your mouth quite as much.

A dental veneer is a really thin sheet of porcelain that is cemented to your natural tooth. It is delicate, and must be treated gently, but it can cover up most imperfections that you had on your teeth. Once you get veneers put on, you will need to have them replaced as long as you have your teeth. With proper care and gentle use, this shouldn't need to happen more often than every 5-10 years.

Finding out what options you have from your dentist is going to give you the best idea on how to protect cracks within your teeth. The more protection you can offer your teeth, the less cracks should influence how you use your mouth.

A minor crack doesn't need to cause confidence issues or change how you live your life. Find out from your dentist if a veneer to cover the problem tooth would be the best option for your situation.
