Calling Your Dentist While in Pain, If You Can
Most dental offices have some type of emergency hours or set of appointments each day, but getting one of those appointments is always tricky. They are set aside for people who have hurt their mouths, broken teeth, crowns, or fillings, or those who are in immense amounts of pain. When you first eat a sweet food, you may be in an immense amount of pain for a few minutes, but the more time that passes, the less that pain sticks around. If you notice that your teeth are severely sensitive to sweets, the best thing you can do is to go in and see your dentist on a regular appointment. Explain the pain, and tell them what you have been trying to do to treat it. When you are in that immense pain, rinse your mouth thoroughly to get all of the extra sugars out of your mouth, and brush if the rinsing isn't helping enough. From there, avoid as much sugar as you can, and go in and see your dentist.
He or she is likely going to want to get you using sensitivity toothpaste, and may want to check to see if any of your teeth need fillings. They may also opt to seal your teeth to protect the dentin from anything sweet you eat or drink.
