If you experienced trauma to a tooth whether in an accident or due to excessive tooth decay and you avoid getting a root canal, you could be doing yourself a disservice. The root canal is meant to help you save your tooth. What happens if you avoid that root canal or postpone it? The chances are that you will end up losing your tooth, depending on the reason for the root canal. There are a few scenarios when the need for a root canal should not be ignored. Infection If you have an infection in the roots of your teeth, it can easily spread to other areas of your mouth. In addition, the infection will take over the roots of the tooth that it affects. If every root is infected and dies, a root canal will not help you as there are no roots to save. This means that your tooth is dead and will need to be extracted and that you will need a replacement down the road. Injury If you were in an accident, whether a car or sporting accident and a tooth was damaged, a root canal can help the situation. We will go in and remove the roots that have died as a result of the trauma and check the health of the remaining roots. We will then fill the area with an artificial filling and strengthen the enamel with a dental crown. If you were to wait, however, you would end up dealing with a great deal of pain and suffering and eventually just want the tooth out to end the misery. We try to help you save your natural tooth with every method possible. Please contact us today if you experienced trauma to a tooth and need help! |
