Ways to Make your Teeth Less Sensitive

Posted on 8/10/2015 by Robert Leale
A woman suffering from a sensitive tooth.Sensitive teeth are not fun to deal with, but they are often a fact of life. Rather than dealing with the pain or avoiding your favorite foods and drinks, learn simple ways that you may be able to put your tooth sensitivities behind you.

Check how you are Brushing

Sensitive teeth occur as a result of the dentin beneath the enamel being exposed. This can occur for a variety of reasons, but one of the most common is when patients brush their teeth/gums too hard. You may be doing this without even realizing it - whether you are brushing with too much pressure or are using a brush with excessively hard bristles. Try changing your habit and your toothbrush to see if the sensitivity goes away.

Discus Tooth Bonding

If the enamel on your teeth is excessively worn, you may need to discuss dental bonding with us. This non-invasive procedure simply bulks up the surface of your enamel, making it stronger and protecting the dentin beneath the enamel. This means that you will be able to enjoy your hot and cold foods without experiencing such pain.

Gum Grafting

If it is determined that you have advanced gum disease or that you were too hard on your gums and the recession is pretty bad, gum grafting may be necessary. While this procedure is more invasive, it will help to protect your dentin once again, allowing you to enjoy your food and drink once your mouth heals from the grafting procedure.
