Digital X-Rays in Spokane, WA

X-rays are an integral part of your oral health care. They provide us with a way to see inside your mouth, in areas that we would not be able to see with the naked eye. X-rays have often been able to assist us in diagnosing issues that would otherwise not be able to be seen right away, allowing the problem to get much worse before treatment began. These issues include excessive decay, gum disease, cysts, and even tumors. At NorthView Family Dental we are proud to provide our patients with the today's latest technology – digital x-rays in order to ensure optimal oral health in every patient.

Digital x-rays are a much more advanced way to see inside your mouth as well as to protect you from harmful radiation. Because these x-rays emit up to 90 percent less radiation than traditional x-rays, our patients are not worried about having them done, allowing us to diagnose oral health issues in their earliest stages, which was sometimes impossible with traditional x-rays.

Save Time

We know that our patients lead very busy lives, which is why we are thrilled with the time saving component of digital x-rays. They allow our patients to spend much less time in our office while receiving even better or more efficient care. This is possible because the results of digital x-rays are available immediately and are portrayed on a screen right in front of you. This means there is no downtime as you wait for the images to be developed and for our staff to read them. Digital radiography is shown right on the computer screen and is even able to be manipulated in ways that give us a closer look at certain areas of your mouth. With the immediate results, you are in and out of our office faster and have the results you need to help you decide which treatment you are going to choose to fix the issues with your oral health.

How the X-Rays are Taken

The digital x-rays are not much different than traditional x-rays when it comes to what you will experience. We will place a small digital sensor in your mouth that will take the x-ray and you are still protected from the minimal amounts of radiation that you are exposed to with proper protection. Once the x-rays are taken, we immediately view the pictures together. This means that we can talk about the problems and potential treatments right away rather than having to wait for the images to develop and for you to be able to see them across the room on the view board. We enjoy doing this with our patients because it educates you on the problems that are occurring in your mouth, allowing you to see it firsthand, rather than just taking our word for it. Once we go over the results, the digital x-rays are stored for future use or to send over to a specialist immediately, should you have any dental health concerns that need to be addressed by a dental specialist.

What are the Benefits of Dental X-Rays?

There are many benefits of dental x-rays, some of which we have already discussed. The one that patients find the most rewarding is the limited amount of radiation that they are exposed to, making this form of x-rays much safer than any others. This change alone has allowed many patients that previously declined traditional x-rays because of their risks to opt for the x-rays to ensure that they are properly taking care of their oral health. Among the decreased radiation, however, are many other benefits.

•  Shorter or Fewer Dental Appointments - With the ability to have your results right away, we are able to save you time, which we know is very important in today's busy world. In the past, appointments either had to be longer or completed in two parts in order to come up with the right treatment. With digital x-rays and their immediate results, we are able to get you in and out of the office in one appointment.
•  Better Images - Digital x-ray images allow us to manipulate them the way we need to in order to get a better look. This differs greatly from standard x-ray images which had one image that would need to be retaken if something needed to be seen better. Digital x-rays have the ability to be made bigger, the color/contrast adjusted, and certain areas zoomed into to get a closer look.
•  Easy Transfer - Sometimes dental issues come up that we are not able to handle in our office. Prior to digital x-rays, this meant that you had to take your images with you and bring them to the appointment with the specialist. This would often mean lengthier appointments and more confusion. With digital x-rays, we can email or scan the images over to anyone that you need to see, making your appointments more efficient and successful.

Not every dental practice has adopted the use of digital x-rays yet because of the investment or lack of technology available in their area. At NorthView Family Dental, we are proud to be among one of the first in the industry to bring this technology to our patients. We truly believe that it helps provide our patients with better oral health care as we are able to find problems very early on, giving us a better idea of the right treatment to reverse or cure the issues occurring in your mouth. Even if we only catch a small area of decay with the digital x-ray, this could have prevented you from suffering from excessive decay that resulted in the need for a root canal and dental crown or bridge. The x-ray could save you from invasive, costly, and time consuming procedures.

If you have put off dental x-rays because of the risk of radiation or you just didn't have time for them, we courage you to come in for an appointment and have digital x-rays performed. We can then help you get your oral health back on track!
