Dentures Spokane, WA
When a patient no longer has any healthy teeth remaining, we can replace their teeth, providing them function and esthetics using dentures. Dentures are a replacement option for missing teeth. They will never deliver the same look or function as your natural teeth, but are a significant step in comfort, opposed to missing a significant number or all of your teeth. Dr. Leale or Dr. Startin are able to discuss your options with you for your situation. Dentures come in 2 varieties: partial dentures and full dentures. The difference between the two lies in how many natural teeth remain.
What are dentures?Full or partial dentures are designed for patients who are missing several or all of their teeth. Full dentures are made for patients when the condition of the teeth has deteriorated so far that they can no longer be repaired and removal is the only option. Partial dentures are for patients who have large gaps of missing teeth and other options are not feasible for health or finance reasons.
Full DenturesA full or complete denture is a removable prosthesis. It’s comprised of white plastic teeth that are set in a pink gum-colored plastic base. This base rests on your gum ridge, with the use of an adhesive, once all of the teeth in the arch have been removed.
What patients may not understand is that life with an upper denture, a lower denture, and especially both, is a major lifestyle change. Adhesive may temporarily keep the denture in place, but it will never feel truly secure. You will need to take your dentures into consideration with everything you eat. Additionally, patients will have to practice speaking with the dentures, Dr. Leale or Dr. Startin will recommend some ways to get better with eating and speaking. This will be a change from your natural teeth. Dentures impact the type of food you are able to eat, your self-confidence in social situations, and even your self-esteem.
Common Reasons for Dentures
|•||All teeth are missing or unhealthy in the same arch.|
|•||To restore your ability to chew foods properly.|
|•||To restore your smile, and to fill out the sunken look, which ages a person.|
|•||As an economical alternative to other restorative procedures.|
Partial DenturesPartial dentures are customized to fill the gaps of missing teeth. Unlike bridges, partial dentures are attached with metal clasps. This allows the partial denture to be removable, allowing the patient to clean it outside of their mouth, and allows them to rest from wearing it. Our dentists at NorthView Family Dental can assist you in your options.
Implant Retained DenturesTo dramatically improve the feel and fit of a lower full denture, we suggest the placement of tooth implants to serve as a retentive mechanism. Two dental implants placed in the lower jaw can anchor the denture and significantly improve your comfort. Sometimes, the implants can even be placed in the jaw after a denture has been in use for several years.
