Common Pains to Expect After Getting Your First Filling

For most people fillings are a way of life. Dental fillings help keep your teeth in good shape and prevent further damage from occurring to a somewhat damaged tooth that needs to be patched up.

While fillings are an important part of good dental health, they can also lead to pain and discomfort in some instances.

Tooth Sensitivity

One of the most common forms of pain after having fillings done on your teeth is sensitivity. You may be more sensitive to hot or cold foods than you once were. This issue will clear up over the next few days in most instances, leaving you feeling good once again.

Pain and Mild Discomfort

Some patients also experience minor pain and discomfort after having a tooth filled. Most of the time it's only when the filling is a composite one, because they tend to contract a bit after being put in and can leave a small gap behind.

The pain that people experience after composite fillings subsides after just a day or two though, making it something that's simple to deal with for that short period of time.

There are some instances where dental pain lasts more than a week after your fillings have been put in, generally this is because there is something about the filling that isn't quite right.

If you are suffering from pain caused by fillings for a week or longer after having the work performed, it's a good idea to visit our office to have your fillings checked out and repaired so that they don't cause you any pain or discomfort.

Most people won't suffer from much pain at all after getting a filling, which is a pretty nice benefit of having the work done by a top-level professional. If you do get some pain after your fillings are in, don't worry, it will subside quickly.

Just take pain medications that are approved to cut down on pain a bit more, and wait it out. You'll be over the pain in no time and feeling good enough to get new dental work done at that point.
